Where can I find movie reviews from the 1910's and 1920's? I have to write a paper in my film class and need to find movie reviews from between 1910 and 1929 and I'm having trouble finding them online. Both the movie and the review have to be from that time period so it can't be a recent review from a movie of that time. Thanks!
What's the name of a recent movie that is about Horse-Girl Friendship story? I checked a movie review sometime back.. i guess it is a recently released movie about a friendship between a girl and an horse.. i forgot the name of the movie., does anyone know?
Where Can I Find Old- Preferably WWII-Era- Movie Reviews? Not recent reviews of old movies, but reviews written at the time that the movie was first premiered.

I can't remember the title of the movie!? This movie is gonna be hard to guess. It's a foreign movie that I saw a month ago in the Star Movies VIP access where they recent review movies of the year 2007 fictional thriller (maybe horror?) movie. It has something to do with day and night (maybe dawn) and the story is to be scared of the day rather than the night. The cool thing about the movie is how the actors get all pushed to a wall and pass through it. that's what i'm looking for lots of computer graphic generated i believe. i think it's a foreign not sure european but it has english subs! also i think it has a trilogy or some sort. that's all i can give hints. so guys help me!
itunes movie reviews have an awkward pattern...? alright when you go and look at the top movies like hangover and zombieland, ALL the reviews on the last page have 1 star (a couple 3 and 4's here and there), but the most recent ones are all 5 stars and nothing else, does itunes purposely put the bad reviews in the back like this to hide them?
Its August '07.... Any good movie(s) out/review(s)? I'm planning on goin to the movies and i want to see SUPERBAD! Is that any good? I also want to see The Simpsons and Halloween I kind of dont want to see The Simpson because of the whole spider pig thing. I dont want 50 million people singing along. But what's your review on that? Halloween seems too..... I dont know :-( Like it'll be too Newly Gorry and just.... not interesting like the past Halloween movies. I feel like I wont be scarred just like when the New Texas Chainsaw Massacare came out. That was too dull. Now the old one? THAT WAS SPOOKY CRAZY :-) DO YOU HAVE ANY GOOD REVIEWS ON RECENT MOVIES? Ooh... how was Chuck & Larry? I have so many movies in mind but I forget all about them 2 weeks after the come out. Gosh What else is out?
Looking for the name of the 'Animated' movie critics? They patch in their voice. There are 3-4 of them animated, sitting at a table and they review recent movies. There is a black guy, gun with long hair and a hat, and a robot. What is the name? gun=guy *guy with long hair...*
Name of recent movie? Husband & wife separated after explosion in LA? It was probably made within the last couple years. We just watched a trailer for it on a rental DVD last night but forgot the name and the now the DVD is back in the post. Anyway, it looked like a suspense movie, there's an explosion in downtown LA and the husband is trying to reach his wife after she leaves the house. He's not sure if it's terrorists, the army shows up in chemical suits, the air is thick with smoke....there's no attempt during the trailer to explain the plot, just capture the mood. Apparently it got good reviews and there's a twist at the end? Any ideas of the title, it looks like a good one to rent? Cheers!
What do you think of my movie review website, www.bucketreviews.com? Do you find the reviews interesting? Is the site helpful? Do you think that it is viable that it could become prominent in the review community? What is your opinion of the recent writing, especially that on AFI FEST (disregard the lack of other updates, please)? I have been running the site for years and am struggling to find an audience, do you know any "best kept secrets" of finding site traffic in this area (I've tried link exchanges, posting on forums with links, applying to OFCS and BAFCA, Google Ad Sense with a limited budget, and Traffic Flate)? So, what say you? All comments are definitely appreciated! Thanks!
Whats the most recent movie you've seen, and would you mind giving a little review for me? theater releases or at home rentals ok. I watched Flicka last night and really enjoyed the cinematography.Wyoming is beautiful....who knew?! The daughter/dad storyline was very moving and the music was really good,too...I didint pay attention to the credits- but is Bethany Dillon on the soundtrack?thought I recognized her voice...anyhoo,great family film, clean language, wholesome family environment with the mountain lion being the only "scary" action this mom of 3 under the age of 13 is very pleased with this adaptation of Flicka.Cowboy hats off to Tim McGraw!

What are your thoughts on these two movies (one recent, one no-so recent)...? 500 Days of Summer & Cold Mountain 500 Days has caught my attention, especially after Critic's reviews. It seems like just a good, happy movie to go see. What are your thoughts on this movie? Cold Mountain has secretly and surprisingly been one of my favorites. It's a great dramatic tale, and I would like to get other opinions on this movie. Thanks.
Why is G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, getting a lot of negative reviews? Why all the negative criticism? Why is the recent movie that just came out, G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra, getting a lot of bad reviews? What is wrong with it?
Name of this independent movie? This is a recent movie that I saw the review on the New York Times maybe six months ago. It is about a guy that gets a job of handing out pamplets from a company dressed as the company logo (a blue gummy bear type of thing). The setting in on the countryside (desert?) Like I said, it is an indenpendent movie and the actors aren't famous (at least to me). Please give me the name of the movie and I give a 10. Thanks Moby
What are some good movies/books I can review for my project? I have an english project. TZP was my first choice, but i gave it up as my friend very badly wanted to do it. Thnx, and keep it going!
Recent Comedy movies? I'm doing an article, where I'm reviewing movies. I was originally going to review Tropic Thunder, but I watched it last night, and it was definitely NOT something I can put in a school newspaper. What are some recent comedy movies that are PG-13 or under for a High School audience? And they need to be recent, also. 10 points goes to the one I pick. Thanks guys.
Why do a few actors make so much when the success of a movie has little to do with the actors in it? I don't understand the economics behind the salaries in the movie industry. A few actors make an enormous amount, even though there is a large supply of actors willing to work for much less whose skills are about equal to the actors making a lot. In addition, many highly paid actors offend their audience through their actions, such as drug abuse, or taking political stances against most of their audience, such as Tom Hanks attacking supporters of proposition 8 and the Mormon religion. Have there been any studies about the amount of money brought in by highly paid actors vs unheard of ones when all other factors are taken into account. It seems to me that a movie with a bad script, director, special effects, etc will bomb regardless of the actors, whereas a movie with a good script, director, special effects, etc will do well regardless of the actors. For example, no one had heard of any of the actors in the original Star Wars and few new of the ones in Lord of the Rings or the recent Batman movies, yet they're phenomenal successes. Wouldn't it be a more efficient use of resources to spend money on areas of movies that add value to the finished product, such as the script, director, special effects, etc rather than on the actors? I know that when I look at the movies playing I read reviews and look at the story and don't care which actors are in it.
What are the two most recent film versions of the play Hamlet? I want to introduce the two movie versions of Hamlet: the one of Mel Gibson (1991) and one of Kenneth Branagh but I don't know what to say. I think those versions are not the most recently ones. Do you have any idea on introducing those two versions to compare their critics' reviews?
Beatdown Results!? Debuting Show!? Road to SSS ends!? What do you think? If you don't like it, don't answer! We begin the show with two director chairs in the middle of the ring, one with Garfield in it. “Welcome to the first ever Critique Corner. At this, we review recent movies on the big screen. Today we review The Last Legion, a movie about King Arthur’s family history. So now, we’re going to introduce one of the stars, King Arthur.” King Arty come out. “Arty, I can’t believe your family was like that. It even brought a tear to my eye. I mean, I can’t believe they were that, pathetic. I mean, your dad, Romulus, he couldn’t do anything without protection. He needed help. But I guess it’s father like son. And, gees, was your dad dumb. He threw away Excalibur, just waiting for someone to find it. Sadly, it was you. And I thought you had to work towards what you wanted. Since when were you a Caesar. Overall, I give this 4 out of 10. Terrible plot, but the 4 is when your grandparents died.” “Shut up! You don’t know what it was like. I didn’t get everything handed to me on a silver plate. Because if I did, I would have that Beatdown championship & the EFW back. But my waist doesn’t have gold around it and the FW is dead. And I’m not the one that always needs help. If I recall, without Big Bird, I would still be wearing that title on my waist.” “You know what, that gives me an idea. For tonight’s main event, you will face Big Bird. And not just any match, but a fork on a pole match.” He elaves as King Arty is shocked at the decision. We go to the first match, as Calvin & Hobbes face Grimace & the Hamburgler. It was a great match. Calvin & Hobbes were dominating. Hobbes had just hit an Imaginary Slam on Hamburgler and was about to get the win. But then Ronald McDonald came out and distracted the ref. Jak came from the other side with a chair. He was about to get in, but he couldn’t. Wicket W. Warrick had come from under the ring and held his leg down. He bit his leg and Jak fell over. Then Wicket kicked him below the belt and went under the ring again. On the other side, Dre & Chewbacca came out and took out Ronny. The ref turned back around and Hobbes hit another imaginary Slam to get the win. Jane faced Kim Sul-Song after that. It was a great Women’s Match. Jane was dominating the entire match. She was lining up for a Super kick when Slimy came out. He was trying to distract the ref, but instead, Jane Super kicked him. She Super kicked Kim as well. While she was pinning, Slimy broke it up by hitting her with his titles. The ref had to give the win to Jane. Slimy continued the attacks. After she bagan to bleed, he yelled, “See you at Summerslam!” he left as medics checked with Jane. After that Winnie the Pooh faced Burger King. It was a great match. King was about to hit the Crowning Moment, but Piglet came in with the Beatdown Tag Championships and hit him with them. This gave King the DQ win, but Pooh & Piglet didn’t care, as they continued the attack. Big Mac Came out helped King up, to make it 2-on-2. As they were brawling, Jabba the Hutt came out and body slammed them all to the ground. Fantasy WWE tag champs, Clemens & Bonds, came out and held their titles over both their opponents for Fantasy Summerslam. It’s main event time as King Arty takes on Big Bird in a fork on the pole match. Before the bell rang, Garfield said, “Wait, I have revised this match to be Triple threat Match. Your other opponent will be Casper. Casper come from behind and knocks both of them down. He flies up to the fork and gets it down. He then hits them both with the fork multiple times, causing their heads to be bloody messes. He then low blows both of them with the fork. He pins both of them to get the win. Garfield then came in the ring, after watching the short match. He got out his cheese grater and literally grated their skin off. They were about to leave when Kermit & Han Solo came from the crowd, both with sledgehammers. They knocked both of them out. Hugo Chavez came down the ramp and tried to help, but he too met the sledge hammers. They helped up Arty and gave him a sledge hammer. He hit Garfield over and over again. We end the show with Arty holding the Beatdown Chmpionship, Kermit holding the Fantasy WWE Championship, & Han Solo holding the IN Championship over their bloodied enemies. HRDO, I've checked it out before. and I've done this way longer then AWF was around. I've been doing this about 101/2 months.
Does anybody know where to find free streaming of The Iron Giant? The Disney movie, The Iron Giant, caught my attention again with recent review I saw of it by the Nostalgia Critic. Does anybody know a site where I can enjoy it for free?
What movie(s) have you recently rented/seen in the theatre which you felt was a total waste of time and money? You know... when you leave the theatre, or after you finish the DVD, and you were either disgusted, disappointed, totally un-entertained, unsatisfied... etc... and you wish you could ask for your money back. WHAT movie(s)??? and WHY did it(they) disappoint you so? For myself, the most recent one was "Little Children." It had gotten "rave" reviews by critics, but I found it disgusting, uneven, plodding, and predictable.
What's your review of the new Oliver stone movie, W? Whether you love him or hate him, there is no question that George W. Bush is one of the most controversial public figures in recent memory. In an unprecedented undertaking, acclaimed director Oliver Stone is bringing the life of our 43rd President to the big screen as only he can. W takes viewers through Bush’s eventful life -- his struggles and triumphs, how he found both his wife and his faith, and of course the critical days leading up to Bush’s decision to invade Iraq.
Any techniques on how to stop constantly thinking about something that was recent and really interesting? What a strangely worded question. Anyway what I mean is I have a huge test in 7days, the MCAT. Now for some reason whenever I read something/watch a movie that has some interesting fantasy element, my mind obsesses itself with it. For example, after watching a new Harry Potter movie I am constantly thinking of childish fantasies, like how "cool it would be" or whatever. It is like having a song really stuck in your head. For days on end my train of thought is constantly derailed and interrupted by thoughts of this movie/book. Now going back to the present. Like I said, the MCAT is in 7 days and I have literally been studying since June. This last week is crucial to the test preparation since I need to review everything and take practice tests. Problem is 2 days ago I made the mistake of watching this weird Japanese movie and it has been consuming all my mental energy. Example: while taking a practice test and suddenly realize I wasted 5 minites thinking about the movie. Any ideas?
Need help from movie buffs? My situation: Clark is in love with me, but we've always had a brother/sister type relationship. I am in love with my fiance. Clark being in love with me is a recent revelation. He asked me to write a paper for him for his English class in exchange for doing my math homework. I agreed. Now I have to write this paper. It's a movie review. I want to write the paper on a movie that would talk about this situation so that I subtly let him know how i feel while writing him a quality paper. my feelings are that this will never work but i still want you as a friend. the only movie i could think of was my best friend's wedding, but that won't work because in the end doesn't julia roberts get the guy? that would be the exact opposite direction in which i'm going. please help. thanks and no i have not seen made of honor so whatever the outcome of that one is it wont work because i cant write about something i havent seen. 10points to best answer. thanks in advance. i thought he ended up not marrying kimmie? my bad
How many think "Professional" Movie Critics haven't got a clue ??? I went to see PS. I Love You today despite the horrible reviews. Every critic imaginable slammed this sweet movie. Check it out on rottentomatoes.com Well I saw it and thought it was really good not even half good but really well acted etc. I go to movies a lot and there was a time when you could count on th critics for advice as to what was a dog and what was brilliant. At least they could correctly pick extremes but lately forget it! After many times over recent years taking a consensus of their advice, seeing the movie, and getting so disappointed I realized they don't know what the heck they're doing. And Im not talking about those fake internet or magazine reviewers or when a janitor who works for a major network reviews a movie and puts their logo on it. Honestly, I go to yahoo movies now and read the user reviews and what "real people" say. Its not 100% foolproof but its a much better read on what is worth my time and money and what I should skip.
one page long rant on "how you would like to be remembered"? and/or on "what courage means to you," "3 wishes," "review a recent movie you saw"
A good movie to review?? Please help!!? Hi! I have to choose a movie (not an old one or anything, pretty recent) to do an evaluation on and find subliminal messages and how that movie shows real life, important situations. I just need a good movie that has REAL life issues. And I need your opinions on how "viewing" the world through movies or advertising requires literate persons to decipher subliminal and other messages. So I'd love some suggestions! Thanks in advance!
Recently saw a new movie called the "Omen" freaked me out! Did it freak anyone else out? If not what recent movies have scared you? -I know as a Christian watching the "Omen" made me want to pick up my Bible and review some things..(since it's about the antichrist)
I need to pick 3 movies to review for my writing project...? Hey okay so im in 8th grade and i needa choose 3 movies that i need to review.. what movies should i review?? (recent ones, preferably) i was thinking the dark knight as one of them.. what movies should i review? =)
What is a good movie to review...? For a grade 9 english assignment, I must choose a movie to review. Preferably, a movie that is not in theaters and that I can rent or one that I might own. It can be old as Titanic or as recent as something like Juno or Twilight coming out in DVD soon. Please let me know what you think is best! Also, IMPORTANT! that I choose a movie where I can only say good things about, so try and recommend some movies that you really enjoyed. Thank you:) Thanks, I completely agree with the Slumdog Millionaire, I just hope I can remember enough of it to write a 400-600 word movie review.
Bad Movie Suggestions? I really want to help my friend review a bad movie, but first we need to know what that movie is,more like an 90's movie, maybe a more recent one as well,if its that bad >>

How many Harry Potter movies/ books in the series? Might sound like a stupid question, because I'm pretty sure there are seven (being that there are seven years at Hogwarts.) But I was looking up the reviews of the most recent movie that came out, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and they mention it as "the sixth chapter in a now eight-part series" Here is the article: http://movies.nytimes.com/2009/07/15/movies/15harry.html It's the first paragraph, fifth line that they mention this. Am I wrong about there only being seven? Or are they the dumb ones? From what I thought, its The Scorceres Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince. and the Deathly Hallows Am I missing something? Oooooh. That explains a lot! Thanks! They better not release the last 2 movies 2 years apart, that would make me very angry, haha
recent shooting in schools - do you think showing the shooters on TV makes other kids copy peer behavior? I was really frustrated when they showed the actual tape of shooting on TV commenting on it a voice and tone that reminded me a movie review. And I thought, could it be that showing the shooting on TV makes other kids who have suicidal thoughts copy the behavior. Could they possibly think that they could become famous that way before they die? Kids are not able to evaluate all the consequences - they get an idea and act on it. It's scary to think that way - but I really felt I need to share. What do you think?
Why do I always love the movies that the "movie critics" hate. Who's right? Who's wrong? I mean, this happens all of the time. I feel that I have a good taste in movies. Why do they pick apart all of the good ones? Some recent examples: Nacho Libre, Click, The Benchwarmers. I loved all of these movies this year, and yet they all recieved poor reviews. Maybe I should be a movie critic? Ha!!
What's a good movie to rent? I want recent ones (maybe 90's or 2000's) that have hit box office, have received very good reviews and can be considered a classic in years to come.. Some of the movies I love: -The Wrestler -Slumdog Millionaire -Titanic -King Kong I want movies like that... thanks
Calling all writers and movie critics!!!!? Hi well I am critiquing the movie "Stranger than Fiction". It is the only movie I have seen as of recent. Anyway, I need to demonstrate critical thinking skill with an emphasis on analysis and evaluation. I should analyze by identifying and describing key components that collectively form my subject. Ok I have a review completed but I feel as if it is incomplete. If anyone out there would like for me to post or email it to them for critique please let me know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
please help- I can't remmber anything about this movie other than plot- can someone review synopsis for name? The plot is a 30 year old who decides to marry his fiance, is ambivalent about marriage, gets involved with a student he meets at a friend's wedding, then loses fiance, regrets his mistake, and the movie ends with him camping outside her front door for days, including in the rain, until at the end she finally lets him back inside. I think the movie is fairly recent, but I cannot remember its name or those of any of the actors. It was on HBO last year. Can anyone help me? I would be very grateful! Thanks. Barry
What is your opinion on Bollywood movies? What is your opinion on Bollywood movies? Many people believe bollywood films to be extremly long movies that are stupid and clichéd with thin plots, the same love triangle, melodramtic and super ficial. I agree some of the bollywood movies that have come out today aren’t the greatest. The all-to familiar love triangle, crappy musical numbers, and then something unexpected happens which makes no sense. Some of the acting today isn’t up to mark today either. Not to mention the whole trying-to-be-american thing with the slutty tops and dresses women wear in bollywood films today and hindi songs mixed in with American words. Many of the recent bollywood films purely broad cast the word “SEX” or associate with sex. The plot that you’re pretty much sure you saw some Hollywood movie have the same one too. The crappy ripped off movies of some other countries film industries. Bollywood has had some major success over the couple of years with hits like 3KG, Laagan, and Water, etc. But the recent Bollywood-Hollywood release, Marigold has been a flop, receiving many harsh reviews from both Indian and American reviewers. Marigold wasn’t the greatest, Salman Khan’s acting sucked. The plot was similar to some of the crappy movies made in the industry today only with the 80s look. Marigold sullied many American’s views and perspectives making many of them to believe that all Indian films are like that. I’m tired of those films too. I’m tired of the stereotype that non-indians believe that a high percentage the actors in Bollywood have personalities like rapists or terrorists. But please, those who believe that all Bollywood are the same: clichéd, long and stupid with the same thin plagiarized plot, listen. Not ALL Bollywood are like that or are the same. There have been great, true, classics made with an original plot that doesn’t always revolve about love. I could name some movies from the late 90s and 80s. But the recent ones that I have seen are: The remake of Devdas ( a little over the edge with the budget and the costumes but the film was really great.) The legend of Bharat Singh Black Viruddh Lagaan Water Guru Swades Pinjar Sandstorm Chak De India Taxi No. 9211 (Was not the greatest but the moral was good.) Baghban The shootout at Lokhandar Lage Rago Munnai Bhai And etc. There are many more. Some, not too big at the box offices and others, huge block-buster hits. So please, before you claim that all Bollywood are the same and claim “It’s a terrible, horrible industry that creates all crappy films”, take a good look at your own film industry. Everyone has flaws. Every industry has flops. It is great Bollywood has come so far with the little time directors have to create films and the low budgets they have. And remember, Bollywood hasn’t always known was “Bollywood.” They weren’t the first to don slutty short skirts and barely there tops, encourage sex scenes, and etc. That is just a fad in today’s film industry. Bollywood was copied these stupid trends from other film industries in other countries such as Hollywood and etc. Bollywood only does it because that’s what seems what people want to see in movies and other industries are doing it too. So anyways, I would like to hear your opinion on Bollywood. Do you enjoy Bollywood movies? Do you think the film industry has detoriated in the few years? What do you think about recent movies such as Cash, Marigold, and Partners? What Bollywood films do you enjoy? And what improvements would you suggest for the industry?
Is Bolt the first "good" CGI Disney movie? Call me biased and closed-minded, but I thought Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons were both mediocre like a lot of recent Disney animation. After redaing a review, it looks like Bolt may be better? Comments?
Cool movie? HoMeWoRk HeLp pLeAsE? I have an assignment for school where I have to come up with 3 movies that I've seen and then rigt a review on them. What would some cool movies to do be for an 8th grade girl? I want them to be entertaining but they have to be school appropriate. I also want them to be recent and not some old, little kid movie. thanks
Does the Simpson's Movie look Stupid? This movies been promoted wayyyyy to much and I'm tired of hearing about it. Every channel on TV is advertising it.The Simpsons have gone way down hill during the past five years and I really don't think its that funny of a show anymore. The episodes from the early to mid 90s are halarious(sp?) though. Those episodes involved more realistic situations. Recent shows like Southpark and Family Guy blow it out of the water when it comes to being funny. Homer's character has changed a lot over the years which has hurt the show the most. Originally, he was just a stupid careless neglectful father which was really funny. Now he just acts retarded and the person that does his voice makes him sound really whiney. They had a marathon on tv last weekend and I didn't laugh during any of the episodes. The previews I've seen of the movie aren't funny at all.I think it will get bad reviews & bring the show closer to being cancelled, which needs to happen before the shows image is tarnished forever
Global warming is all hype and gore is wrong? Questions for Al Gore By Dr. Roy Spencer 25 May 2006 Gore's Inconvenient Truth.... Dear Mr. Gore: I have just seen your new movie, "An Inconvenient Truth," about the threat that global warming presents to humanity. I think you did a very good job of explaining global warming theory, and your presentation was effective. Please convey my compliments to your good friend, Laurie David, for a job well done. As a climate scientist myself -- you might remember me...I'm the one you mistook for your "good friend," UK scientist Phil Jones during my congressional testimony some years back -- I have a few questions that occurred to me while watching the movie. 1) Why did you make it look like hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, floods, droughts, and ice calving off of glaciers and falling into the ocean, are only recent phenomena associated with global warming? You surely know that hurricane experts have been warning congress for many years that the natural cycle in hurricanes would return some day, and that our built-up coastlines were ripe for a disaster (like Katrina, which you highlighted in the movie). And as long as snow continues to fall on glaciers, they will continue to flow downhill toward the sea. Yet you made it look like these things wouldn't happen if it weren't for global warming. Also, since there are virtually no measures of severe weather showing a recent increase, I assume those graphs you showed actually represented damage increases, which are well known to be simply due to greater population and wealth. Is that right? 2) Why did you make it sound like all scientists agree that climate change is manmade and not natural? You mentioned a recent literature review study that supposedly found no peer-reviewed articles that attributed climate change to natural causes (a non-repeatable study which has since been refuted....I have a number of such articles in my office!) You also mentioned how important it is to listen to scientists when they warn us, yet surely you know that almost all past scientific predictions of gloom and doom have been wrong. How can we trust scientists' predictions now? 3) I know you still must feel bad about the last presidential election being stolen from you, but why did you have to make fun of Republican presidents (Reagan; both Bushes) for their views on global warming? The points you made in the movie might have had wider appeal if you did not alienate so many moviegoers in this manner. 4) Your presentation showing the past 650,000 years of atmospheric temperature and carbon dioxide reconstructions from ice cores was very effective. But I assume you know that some scientists view the CO2 increases as the result of, rather than the cause of, past temperature increases. It seems unlikely that CO2 variations have been the dominant cause of climate change for hundreds of thousands of years. And now that there is a new source of carbon dioxide emissions (people), those old relationships are probably not valid anymore. Why did you give no hint of these alternative views? 5) When you recounted your 6-year-old son's tragic accident that nearly killed him, I thought that you were going to make the point that, if you had lived in a poor country like China or India , your son would have probably died. But then you later held up these countries as model examples for their low greenhouse gas emissions, without mentioning that the only reason their emissions were so low was because people in those countries are so poor. I'm confused...do you really want us to live like the poor people in India and China ? 6) There seems to be a lot of recent concern that more polar bears are drowning these days because of disappearing sea ice. I assume you know that polar bears have always migrated to land in late summer when sea ice naturally melts back, and then return to the ice when it re-freezes. Also, if this was really happening, why did the movie have to use a computer generated animation of the poor polar bear swimming around looking for ice? Haven't there been any actual observations of this happening? Also, temperature measurements in the arctic suggest that it was just as warm there in the 1930's...before most greenhouse gas emissions. Don't you ever wonder whether sea ice concentrations back then were low, too? 7) Why did you make it sound like simply signing on to the Kyoto Protocol to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions would be such a big step forward, when we already know it will have no measurable effect on global temperatures anyway? And even though it represents such a small emission reduction, the economic pain Kyoto causes means that almost no developed country will be meeting its emission reductions commitments under that treaty, as we are now witnessing in Europe . 8) At the end of the movie, you made it sound like we can mostly fix the global warming problem by conserving energy... you even claimed we can reduce our carbon emissions to zero. But I'm sure you know that this will only be possible with major technological advancements, including a probable return to nuclear power as an energy source. Why did you not mention this need for technological advancement and nuclear power? It is because that would support the current (Republican) Administration's view? Mr. Gore, I think we can both agree that if it was relatively easy for mankind to stop emitting so much carbon dioxide, that we should do so. You are a very smart person, so I can't understand why you left so many important points unmentioned, and you made it sound so easy. I wish you well in these efforts, and I hope that humanity will make the right choices based upon all of the information we have on the subject of global warming. I agree with you that global warming is indeed a "moral issue," and if we are to avoid doing more harm than good with misguided governmental policies, we will need more politicians to be educated on the issue. Why does Hollywood continue to make Apocalyptic movies? I recently read that two more apocalyptic movies are in the works, which I find very strange when all the major past attempts at making these futuristic movies have resulted in absymal box office takings and very poor reviews from critics and film goers alike. Does Hollywood learn from its mistakes? The most recent list of poor movies include Battlefield Earth, Judge Dredd, the Postman, Waterworld, etc. Even the remarkable Blade Runner did poorly at the box office. Although Terminator and the Matrix Triology were massive hits, a considerable part of those two movies were set in the present, so to speak. The public just doesn't have an appetite for movies based in a barren, post apocalyptic land so why is Hollywood so determined to spend millions on producing movies like I am legend, etc. This money is better spent elsewhere.
Why does movies sucks these days? I recently watch Watchmen and it's so boring and crap! Hyped movies in recent years sucks. So I decided to read the review first before watching one. Like I've been wondering why does good movies don't get much attention these days while the craps get hyped too much.

What are some disturbing horror movies? My friends and I do movie nights every week and we need some more creepy films to watch. Preferably something recent, by that I mean anything made in the last 15 years. 2000+ would be great. And not movies like Saw or Hostel; we're fans of foreign horror mostly, ha. Our most recent viewings have been Martyrs, Audition, Inside, and High Tension. We are considering Irreversible and Taxidermia, so if anyone's seen those a short review on how "disturbing" those are would be great.
Has anyone seen American Haunting, if so is it scary.? The reviews are pretty bad, but they dont always ...? reflect what the people think. Im on my way to the store to buy a DVD to watch tonight and dont want to be disappointed. We want a really scary movie. Know of any good ones, recent?
How accurate is this assessment of the decisions that led to the action to start the Iraq War? The updated version of this controversial documentary -- which takes you behind the walls of the U.S. government as CIA, Pentagon and Foreign Service experts address the government's reasons for launching the "preemptive" war on Iraq in 2003 -- includes almost 30 minutes of brand new footage. Paired with this title is director David O. Russell's controversial antiwar documentary, Soldiers Pay. Where Moore's product delivers with flair (at times at the expense of substance), this film offers the subtantive factual support. Overall, this was an excellent product. The commentators used came from an intelligence background, giving weight to their opinions. Further, several commentators were used. The picture painted of Bush's decision to use the congressional authority to go to war is frightening, and sad. A true abuse of power is disclosed. 518 out of 784 people found this review helpful. I found this review Mort in DTW 68% Similar To You Mort in DTW's other reviews > What this documentary has over every other on this topic is a dispassionate focus on incontrovertible facts: The Bush Administration wittingly lied about WMDs and their motives for invading Iraq and covered lies with more lies. The sober examination of facts by scores of CIA agents, weapons inspectors, governmental officials and others (including several Republicans) should cause bewilderment at the American publics willingness to either look the other way or, worse, believe neocon disinformation despite the truth. There is no reasonable evidence to support any Bush Administration claim or speculation regarding American policy in Iraq since September 2001, except for the fact that Iraq exists. Where Fahrenheit 9/11 is an entertaining overview intended for a wider audience, this is a must for anyone who is curious about what the experts (all disinterested and thoughtful) have to say. For those who call it one-sided: Truth often is one-sided. 322 out of 489 people found this review helpful. I found this review Thorwald 64% Similar To You Thorwald's other reviews > I didn't need convincing that Bush and his cronies are liars and Imperialists. What I enjoyed about this movie is that there are more people like me that are willing to speak out, and that doens't make them unpatriotic or that they don't support their troops. It seems the Neo-Conservatives that try to shut down those that disagree are just hiding behind a convenient bumpersticker catch-phrase ("Support Our Troops") that has no merit. Of course we support them. We just question the validity of WHY they are there in the first place. (Which just changes with the seasons!) To me, it IS patriotic to express my freedom of speech, even if it disagrees with yours. Back to the film...Anyone still hanging onto Bush's lies about Iraq will never be convinced otherwise, so this film is not for them. They can live in happy ignorant bliss for all I care. I enjoyed it because it showed that there are many people in all branches of the government that question this administration's policies and are willing to hold them accountable. 435 out of 770 people found this review helpful. Bush's preemptive invasion of Iraq. I am pretty familiar with most of the lines of the argument...and the truth was clear to me even prior to the invasion. It was hard not to see what was happening while it happened with the blatant (to the point to idiotic) fearmongering being engaged in by the Administration to sell their war. Well, after what happened, by impression about the collective level of the intelligence of the American people dropped a few notches. Like Bush, they were either too stupid to figure out con job, or they were totally in on it themselves. The most infuriating aspect of all of this is how the dire consequences of this ill-fated adventure will affect the US down the line, while Bush and entire Administration (including paeons like Scooter Libby) will walk away totally scot free. 0 out of 2 people found this review helpful. This is not a movie about Bush vs. Kerry or Republicans vs. Democrats. Its about our current voting system and exposing a multitude of problems with that system as demonstrated in the 2004 election. We are told "EVERY VOTE COUNTS" and this documentary exposes the corruption, mistruths, and shameful negligence and mishandling of these "VOTES" in a way that cannot be denied nor ignored - unless you don't watch it for yourself. 73 out of 78 people found this review helpful. The answer is yes, yes, yes!!! Kudos to Bev Harris who has dedicated years to exposing the corruption surrounding electronic voting. Get this. After Hacking Democracy's premiere on HBO, Harris received death threats. That's how risky and powerful her work is. 67 out of 77 people found this review helpful. This wonderful documentary proves my point that we have the best democracy that money can buy, along with our judicial system. This film is more frightening than any horror film I've seen, because THIS IS REAL! And this is movie biased? Not at all. It's an absolute eye opener that shows that your vote really doesn't count; and make sure you watch the deleted scenes(another 33 minutes of fantastic footage). 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. Member Reviews hawk5391 58% Similar To You hawk5391's other reviews > 5.0 Stars Even though I also watched the original slasher classic Black Christmas, this was the scariest movie I saw over the Christmas break. Although the filmmakers obviously have every reason to sensationalize potential problems with electronic voting systems ("good news is no news," right?), the implications here are frightening. Not only did Bev Harris (founder of a non-partisan watchdog group) find voting machine code unprotected on the internet, she was able to successfully hack it and prove that results could be manipulated (you can watch this being done in a matter of seconds in this film). The lack of oversight of the companies who control the majority of electronic voting is astounding, almost as bad as the sloppy manner in which our government oversees the elections themselves. 10 out of 10 people found this review helpful. I found this review Click to rate this review as helpful LR 572736 43% Similar To You LR 572736's other reviews > 5.0 Stars Politics in America is scarey enough, but when you see what is going on with our elections system, you will just go through the roof. We have hoped through the last few centuries that a government of the people, by the people and for the people would not parish from the face of the earth, and that America would be its shining example. After viewing this flick, you will realize just how tarnished our example has become. We have realized in the past decades, that money rules, and it just feels like our votes don't count, only the money that backs our politicians. Only the corporations and special interests have access to the politicians these days, not the people that vote. This picture goes a long way to explaining how that happens. After realizing the truths in this documentary, I feel even more helpless and useless to change a corrupt government by my vote. Did my vote get counted? How would I even know? The facts put forth in this program are just about incredible, but you come away realizing their powerful credibility. I wondered why their hasn't been criminal prosecution of the election fraud that is running rampant in our country today? Where are prosecuters? Why aren't elections officials who ignore our right to have our votes counted, recounter and certified being placed on trial for crimes against the electorate? You owe it to yourself and your country to see this documentary long before the next election. Don't miss this one! 8 out of 9 people found this review helpful. This is the story of the creation of the group and webpage BlackBoxVoting.com Having found the Diebold's source code, a code that not even the President of the United States can see, Bev Harris takes the code to an expert. What is revealed causes Harris to criss cross America, to prove the fact that Diebold had literally hijacked democracy. Although it's possible, it's difficult to believe that anyone can think that the 2004 Presidential Election wasn't rigged after viewing this film. I found this review Click to rate this review as helpful Ben5765 35% Similar To You Ben5765's other reviews > 4.0 Stars This film is all about voting machines and how votes are tabulated. It makes mincemeat of the Diebold Corporation, manufacturer of a large percentage of the electronic voting machines used in the United States. It reveals Diebold officials making lie after lie about the security of their machines. The makers of the film meticulously document how, using Diebold's machines and data cards, someone with just a basic understanding of the technology involved (including, certainly, any Diebold employee) could rig the vote count, on one machine or on thousands of them, with absolutely no record that the rigging was ever done. The film also reveals how Diebold's chief executive officer was (and maybe still is) a large contributor to the Republican Party. He once wrote a letter stating that he would "deliver" Ohio's electoral votes in the 2004 presidential election for George W. Bush. The film later shows how his company managed to persuade Cuyahoga County, Ohio (where Cleveland is) to buy its machines. Maybe there is nothing fishy going on there, but appearances matter! Lest the film be seen as partisan, it features, among others, a Republican office-seeker from Louisiana who, after losing her race, went to view a demonstration of the machines that the voters used. As part of the demonstration she pressed the button next to her name, and the machine registered a vote for her opponent. Hmmm. She was understandably troubled. Moreover, the film points out that in many parts of the country it is in fact the local Republican Party that is wary of electronic voting machines, not the Democrats. Hacking Democracy also reveals problems with punch card voting systems--problems that dwarf the famous "hanging chad" problem of the 2000 presidential vote count in Florida. The film's message is distressing, but it is one all American citizens should hear and see. 5 out of 5 people found this review helpful. It is because their kind of ignorance that this movie is a 5 star and a must for every single human being to watch and learn. There is no excuse for any voting system to be too technical, too complex, too secret that we cannot prove what the votes were years from when the votes were taken. Not even 50 years, not even 100 years, not even 1000 years, not ever. For anyone to suggest that the electronic voting system is not possible to understand and to do a documentary for by a handful of heroic citizens, it is an insult to this country and democracy. Let these be the commandments of election: 1) No voting methods should be more complicated than what pen/pencil can do on a ballot. 2) Vote handling in any election process should be transparent to the public no matter when, why, how, what, who. 3) Only 100% accuracy should be accepted. Anything less then 100% should be recounted no matter how many times, how long it takes, and how much it cost to be 100% accurate. 4) Without 100% accuracy, election cannot be concluded. Another election should be conducted immediately without further delay. 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. I simply cannot believe the voting process is so secretive! I am still in High School and I could probably devise a system more secure than what every American trusts to count their votes! Danny Schechter uses his experience in news broadcasting combined with original film, interviews, file footage, print, etc. to examine the role of news media in OIF and how the war was delivered to the public as a carefully package and planned media event not unlike the Superbowl. An insightful study of news which is much less agenda-driven propaganda than Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 911" and consequently less entertaining, "WMD..." will appeal most to those interested in major network news broadcasting. Yes, we all knew that the news played a major part on our opinions and beliefs about the war in Iraq, but I was not aware of the meticulous planning to bring us one sided stories, the precision of which it was executed, and the driving forces that made it all work almost as well as a scripted film. This documentary was not at all like Outfoxed. Outfoxed targeted one news outlet blaming them for all that was wrong with the media. This program brought you the facts, which were presented by an independent investigator, one who is not funded by either side, one who has nothing to lose or gain by the facts he presents. What he brings to the table is how all of the news outlets failed the American public at a time when we needed them the most. There is no one person/company/station to blame, which makes the content even more disturbing. All of the news outlets lacked the balls to question and investigate, and instead gave us the filtered version, and often times the outright misleading version of the stories they were expected to tell. When Hollywood producers and major non-news related companies have a hand in the content and the method in which it is delivered, when journalists are no longer expected or even encouraged to actually investigate, when delving deeper into the stories than you are told to sidestep could have devastating effects on your career and the future of the station in which you work for, the American public only stands to lose. Regardless of your political affiliation, regardless of your agreement or disagreement of the war in Iraq, each of us must take action to ensure that the very journalists and stations that we expect to bring us the truth remain separate from the government otherwise the humor of “Wag the Dog” could become a sad blueprint for our future. 16 out of 21 people found this review helpful. The filmmaker is known not for his newscasting but for his news dissecting, a skill that all media viewers could bear increasing. Schechter has a passioned task to bring public awareness to the power of the media and consequent propaganda that we are subjected to daily. If you consider what could mean the difference between war and peace, his use of WMD's as a subject to demonstrate this power is successful. If one is unable or unwilling to separate their politics from facts and from wanting to better understand media manipulation, then it's doubtful they will harness any media analysis capability that this film aptly demonstrates the public's need for in our society. 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. GLOBAL WARMiNG IS FAKE AND YOU KNOW IT? How long does it take to finish writing a novel? Maybe its just me, but I always spend AGES finishing one. I write, if I'm in the mood, just about as fast as I read books - and that's about 20 pages per hour, the paperback ones, small print and small format of paper. Still, it takes me generally 3 years to finish a short story that would be about 100 pages, and 5 years to finish a manuscript that would be about 400 pages. I put my heart and soul into those stories, and after I've finally finished them, despite my desire to share my fiction with the world, I decide its not good enough and needs too much correcting, and it ends up in the bin. (the short story still needs reviewing of the last part) Many of my manuscripts have ended up in the bin like that, and while I once had a good thriller and suspense, and a couple of movie scripts to my name, I'm now left over with my most recent projects; 2 fantasy stories and a horror short story, which is finished. I hear most writers need at most a year. What is wrong with me?
What do you think of this movie idea? *Copyrighted Material "Hadephobia" a work in progress by Blake Perret Note: Hadephobia is the fear of Hell. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Movie Sypnopsis/Premise: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jude has been struggling with suicide his whole life. Ironically Jude is a devout Catholic and Hadephobiac, a person who fears Hell. He has a history of depression and has attempted suicide numerous times despite the Catholic churche's belief that people who commit suicide go to Hell. Jude's biggest fear is anything that is or resembles Hell. And this is where Jude's dilemna arises. His life on earth has become so hellish and unbearable that he would rather end his own life and risk the chance of being sent to Hell. Even if his religon's stance on suicide turns out to be true, Jude figures that if he ends up in Hell it can't possibly be as bad as his living Hell on Earth. He might just be willing to find out... -We are taken to a Catholic church where Jude is seen with his fellow churchmembers worshiping God. Next we are at the end of the church service and sermon. Ironically, the pastor ends his sermon about entering the Kingdom of God. Jude makes his way out saying goodbye and shaking hands with some of his fellow churchmembers. - At this point, Jude's life has reached an all time low. He enters his garage and explodes into a rage. He knocks over shelves and many other things which now litter the floor, including a skateboard. Jude enters his car, turns on the ignition, rolls down the windows, and after awhile starts to drift off. From inside the car we can see that the gas tank is less than a 1/4 full. The last shot shows Jude's eyes closing and then the screen goes black. - It is now morning. Jude's eyes start to open and everything is all blurry. Jude is confused as to if he is actually alive or dead. For a second he can't believe that this is what death is really like but then he glances at the gas tank which is now on empty. The car had stopped running long before he woke up. Reality sets in, Jude has failed at attempting suicide yet again, his car ran out of gas before he could die... Jude is visibly tired and slowly exits his car. On his way out out of the garage Jude accidentally slips on the skateboard that he knocked over with the shelves. He flies straight back onto the concrete garage floor and cracks his head wide open. He is dead on the spot. - Jude is instantly taken on a journey through the universe. All of the typical descriptions of an out of body experience are detailed through Jude's journey. He is slowly zooming faster and faster through a tunnel in space. The light at the end is getting brighter and brigther until it fully encompasses Jude. He is now in a paradise. Off in the distance are angels and heavenly souls roaming peacefully. Suddenly God appears before Jude who is awestruck. -God is disapointed in Jude and his obsession with suicide. He reviews Jude's life right before his eyes. God feels that Jude did not live up to his full potential. After this he tells Jude what is going to happen. He tells Jude that he would still be alive if he had never attempted suicide in the first place and tripped on the skateboard. But since Jude's death was technically an accident and not a suicide, Jude will not spend eternity in Hell. God tells Jude that he is a special case and will only be spending a brief time in Hell to see what it is like. God will then return Jude to Heaven and explain what will happen next. -Jude is briefly sent to Hell. It is a miserable and horrible experience. After this God returns Jude back to the Kingdom of Heaven like he promised. Jude is still frightened from his experience in Hell. He isolates himself from the roaming angels and heavenly souls who are drinking from the river of life. He envies their peace and freedom. -Insert scene here: (Back on earth. Jude's Funeral) -Once Jude is able to understand how much more terrifying Hell is compared to life on Earth, God returns to Jude to speak about what will happen next. God tells Jude that his time in the afterlife is temporarily over. He tells Jude that He will give him another chance at life on Earth. He will now send Jude back to Earth reincarnated and that no one will be able to recognize him. The deal is that Jude cannot ever again attempt suicide, he cannot tell anyone that he is reincarnated, and he cannot tell anyone about his deal with God. Jude has no choice, if he breaks these rules he will spend eternal seperation from God in Hell when he dies. The rest is up to Jude. What new life God will give Jude and the challenges that lie ahead, Jude may not be prepared for... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -In his new reincarnated life, Jude attends a suicide anonymous meeting. The men and women go around in a circle retelling their experiences. They are all very sad and chilling. Their is usually a respectful and pondering silent pause that lasts up to 10 seconds after each person's account of their suicide. The microphone now reaches Jude who is nervous and uncomfortable. His quiet voice stutters as he recounts his most recent suicide. Jude: Hi... my... my name is Jude. I have struggled with suicide my whole existence. Recently I lost control and decided to give up. I went into my garage and entered my car. I rolled down the windows and turned on the ignition figuring that I would wake up dead...but it turned out there was only a fourth of a tank left and I ran out of gas before I could die..... Jude holds his head down and tries to hide in embarassment. After about 5 seconds of silence a woman in the circle accidentally makes one of those noises when you let out a laugh with a gasp of air but your mouth is closed, and it travels to your nose. Soon after a man's laughter cannot be restrained as well, and it accidentally escapes his mouth for a short second. It seems to set off a couple more chuckles here and there in the crowd. Jude lifts his head to see what is taking place. Finnaly a brave women bursts out laughing uncontrollably and then another. A dominoe effect of laughter spreads around the circle. The laughing continues steadily and gets louder and heavier. Soon the the whole room is filled with laughter. Even the people who have been crying from talking about their suicide expereince cannot help but laugh too. Jude's blank face cracks a smile and he too finds himself laughing his ass off. Laughing with the others and at himself. It is ironic that such a serious and disturbing account could turn out to be so Goddamn funny. People in the nearby room mistake the suicide anonymous meeting for a zoo of hiyenas drugged with laughing gas. It is quite ironic and odd, but funny at the same time. There is something humane about it.
What does PC (girlfriend) stand for? So i was reading this movie review of Tropic Thunder, and in one part he says "Tropic Thunder might not be the film to take your vet uncle or your overly PC girlfriend to see, but it's among the funniest Hollywood blockbusters in recent memory." I was just wondering what does "PC" stand for?
Do you have any film reviewers who's opinions you trust almost implicitly? I was on a daily check of Variety a month ago and came across an article on the falling demand for film critics with the growingly digitized world herding people away from the columns of Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) Rick Kushman (Sacramento Bee) to websites like Cinematical and movie review aggregate sites like Rotten Tomatos and Metacritic where pretty much any schmoe can write a review. It's sad because film critics have always been pretty vital in bringing light to films that would otherwise be overlooked by and unmarketable to the movie-going public. This includes recent indies and foreign films like "Once," "The Dividing Bell and the Butterfly," "The Age of Ignorance," and "Juno." The french new wave was spearheaded by a bunch of discontent french film critics sick of the conventional style of what mainstream French cinema forcefed the public. Of which masterpieces like Goddard's "Breathless" and Truffaut's "400 Blows" came. Do you have any critics that you know and read? The problem with people's conceptions about movie reviewers is that they think just because the reviewer's opinion is published, they automatically assume that the reviewer is forcing their opinions on people. What is a movie review? It's a critique of a film which suggests to someone whether a film is well executed and/or worth seeing. Just because Michael Phillips says he doesn't like a movie like "The Science of Sleep" doesn't mean he's telling you not to see the movie. Rather it's his opinion based on his background in film and/or film criticism. You can still think for yourself and read a review.

Have you heard of the new controversy surrounding the Golden Compass???? Oh jeez. Here we go again. People always have to find something to make conflict. Now people are saying the book goes agains God and is attacking the Church. Oh, my God. I'm Catholic. I haven't seen the movie. I DON'T CARE! It looks like a good movie. It looks like a good book. And if you look at the reviews from the past, all of them are "Fantastic book..." "Must read..." "One of the best books I've read in a while." And if you look at the recent reviews they all say something like "It's bashing God. If you're Christian, don't read it...." Jeez, see what I mean. They only start saying these things when some idiot starts saying that the book bashes religion. People, it's a children's book, let it go and let them enjoy the magic. People are real party poopers sometimes and don't know how to enjoy things or let other's enjoy them. What do you think of all this?
