Why do they make movie trailers that ruin the plot of the movie?

Nowadays I see movie trailers that pretty much spell out the entire movie for you, even the plot twists! Why?

1. I don't think they intentionally do this, but you're right. Some trailers do give away everything! I think they do it to make you more interested in what happens in between what they show you.
2. i think its so you'll want to go see the movie even if the whole thing has been given away already
