Recent Movie Reviews

Why do I always love the movies that the "movie critics" hate. Who's right? Who's wrong?

I mean, this happens all of the time. I feel that I have a good taste in movies. Why do they pick apart all of the good ones? Some recent examples: Nacho Libre, Click, The Benchwarmers. I loved all of these movies this year, and yet they all recieved poor reviews. Maybe I should be a movie critic? Ha!!

  1. Well, that's probably because film critics generally like and give good reviews to original, artistic and intelligent films with good acting and dialogue, which is something that none of the movies that you mentioned have. Edit: Basically what Feathery said. Being a film critic is a profession that I would personally like to pursue, but the difference between you and me is that I have a deep appreciation for films as an art form, which is what makes a great film critic. Of course, I don't take most popular film critics too seriously; there are a select few that I go to for cinema knowledge.
  2. everyone has their own opionion.......who knows why theirs are worth the millions they make, dont worry, just keep on enjoying your movies.........oh, and ps........i always like the ones they hate too!
  3. You should be a critic, I like a lot of moivies the critics don't as well.
  4. taste differs from person to person . so while the critics may write off a movie and you personally feel it's good , it's all about perspective. maybe you should be a movie critic if you feel you can analyse movies .
  5. You know, movie critics want to be entertained. If there's free booze, personal interview with the stars, free gifts (T.Shirts, signed autographs, a drink with the stars) well, then it's a great film no matter how you look at it. This is what the entertainment business is all about. Critics want to be entertained, not necessarily by the film.
  6. nobody's right nobody's wrong it is your opinion
  7. THEY DON'T GIVE THESES JOBS TO IDIOTS. (MOVIE CRITICS!)
  8. you are right. who cares if some guy says a movie sux. thats only his opinion. watch what you like and feel good doing so.
  9. Chances are, you are young, and when you go to the movies, you want to relax and be entertained and have fun. Movie critics are looking for plot, character development, the film's artistic references and relationship to film history, etc. You and the critics are usually going to the movies for two entirely different reasons.
  10. The movie critics pretty much just can't watch the movie. They are paid to pick it apart. Just like the movies you like. They are good in your opinion, but I may not like them.
  11. I think because the "critics" have pudding for brains!
  12. movie critics say that movies are not like they use to be but i think wrong they all should be fired and put new movie critics!!!!!!!!!!!!! i want to be one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Yeah, well, everyone has different opinions. I like all movies except stupid ones like nacho libre and neopolian dynamite. People like it because it's so stupid, it's funny.
  14. Critics are supposedly judging a film based on its "artistic merit." You judge a film on whether or not it is entertaining. Some of the most "artistic" films in the world are the most boring. And some of the most entertaining films in the world have gotten universally panned by critics. In some cases, the critics are saying what they think they're supposed to say. I remember very distinctly when "Home Alone" came out, both Siskel and Ebert gave it a thumbs down and slammed it. Well, it was a very entertaining film, especially to families. After being in the top ten for several months, Siskel and Ebert actually did an episode of their show that they called "Why We Were Wrong About Home Alone"! They went back and looked at it in a new light because of the massive fan support it got.
  15. Yeah I feel the same way. I think it's mostly because most movie critics dont enjoy comedies. Ever noticed how they never give good ratings to a comedy, but for action, or drama movies they give top notch ratings.
  16. You are right on the money!honey! You, in all reality are your own person in every sense of the word. You really like to decide if you like a movie or not no matter what the critics say. I am that way myself. In fact, I don't really care what they say. If I want to watch something, I'll watch it. They just like to feel like they have some sort of power over what people should watch for a movie
  17. What do critics know? I agree with you, they have slammed lots of movies that I love and it's almost like a slap in the face to you because it's as if you have bad taste in films. I use their reviews as a guideline and not as the bible and try not to take it personal. I think that film school teaches them to look for certain elements in film and if a film does not have all or some of these elements, it gets a "thumbs down". Remember that a lot of these critics rub elbows with people of high society and seem to have acquired their same boring, snobby taste in films. Ignore them and remember majority rules. Many films the masses enjoy will not get recognition at the Oscars but who really give a crap about the Oscars anyway?
  18. Critics take a lot of flak for giving their opinions. If you want to be insulted then, by all means be a critic. If you don't know what you are talking about in terms of cinematography, scope, genre, social commentary, then I really wouldn't bother. There are critics who like the kind of main-stream run-of-the-mill stuff that you like. You should look for people who like the movies you like and then only look at their reviews for advice for you. There is one critic in my town that likes all the movies I hate so I read his stuff all the time and do the opposite. The problem is that if you can't describe a film as more than good or bad, you aren't going to make it as a critic.
  19. movie critics dont know what their talking about, especially ebert and roper or whatever his name is. thwy think just because the movie does not portray gay characters like them it is bad. besides it does not matter what they say we pay for our tickets. i think they should stop being critics and make a movie if they think they can do better.
