Have you heard of the new controversy surrounding the Golden Compass????
Oh jeez. Here we go again. People always have to find something to make conflict. Now people are saying the book goes agains God and is attacking the Church. Oh, my God. I'm Catholic. I haven't seen the movie. I DON'T CARE! It looks like a good movie. It looks like a good book. And if you look at the reviews from the past, all of them are "Fantastic book..." "Must read..." "One of the best books I've read in a while." And if you look at the recent reviews they all say something like "It's bashing God. If you're Christian, don't read it...." Jeez, see what I mean. They only start saying these things when some idiot starts saying that the book bashes religion. People, it's a children's book, let it go and let them enjoy the magic. People are real party poopers sometimes and don't know how to enjoy things or let other's enjoy them. What do you think of all this?

- Well, of course, they also say "Harry Potter" promotes witchcraft. Silly people with too much time on their hands.
- I agree with you 100%!!!!!!!!!
- Yes, I agree. I think it's a little ridiculous. I'm a christian too. But I think it's the same people talking who think Harry Potter is satanic.
- It's just a movie. If you don't like it, don't go, but everyone else has a right to see it.
- they say it goes against the church because the people's spirits are animals instead of being inside them but if people listened to the beginning of the movie it says in a parallel world there are people like us who have spirits jeez some people are a**holes
- People are freaks and religion is and has been the entire problem with the world since the day it was introduced. Religion - wacko terrorists, war, suicide bombers, all religious people are insane so you know what I can't wait to see that movie! lol a holes (not you, the religious freaks)
- Even if it did, why is it a bad thing? people should educate themselves and accept that not everyone will praise their beliefs, and learn to accept it and learn from it, it really pisses me off when people are like that.
- Its Harry Potter all over again... Cant we just have a good time and see a movie or read a book??? Jeeze. Anyways I did see the movie and to be honest it was great... I was really disapointed that it just ends in the middle of a scene. NO one told me this was going to be a series, and it shoudl still have an ending!! i was bummed.
- This is what I'm talking about.. People get offended by everything! Soon we will have a christmaas with no decorations, no tree, no carols, no santa, no hot chocolate.. All because more people find offense to everything....
- I heard that a while ago supposedly that it was made by an atheist and uses the movie to express his views. Whatever I don't want to see it anyway looks like Narnia and The Lord of The Rings mixed into one.
- I thought it was a really awesome book and it's more about the fact that the author himself is atheist. I say: SO WHAT. That's his personal belief and I'm not going to punish him for it by not entertaining myself with a good movie. I'm not going to take away from what he and the studios have worked hard to create. Yes, I do believe in God and I would like it if others did as well, but I respect the fact that not everyone does. I hope this doesn't stop them from making the second and third movies -- the third novel was my favorite.
- Amazing how anything that is surrounded by controversy only brings it more attention. I'm sure the author is laughing all the way to the bank. Whether the story is based on what this person is claiming or not, they have now peaked people's interest and will cause more to read the series of books and see the movies. Great publicity trick.
- Well I'm 24 yrs old. I read the first 2 books of the 3. Even though they're young adult books, I loved them. However the third book is totally about religion so much as to it almost destroys the entire story. The first one, not so much although it leads to the 2nd book which contains anti-god, thus the 3rd being all about destroying God. I saw the Golden Compass movie. Don't listen to everything you read. However, in my opinion I did NOT like the movie. It left out a lot and if I hadn't read the book, I don't know that I would grasp everything that was going on.
- yeah, they said it can make kids atheis!!!!!
- Not really a "new" controversy ... I've been hearing this for MONTHS now. Yes, it's ridiculous and there was the same type of controversy and protests with "the DaVinci Code" ... the Harry Potter books... etc., etc., etc. It might keep some really conservative fundamentalists away from the movie - but honestly... these "protests" do nothing but give what they're protesting against free advertising and publicity. Yes, the writer doesn't believe in the Christian God (he might even be an atheist - I'm not sure) ... and he's written a work of FICTION which thinly veils a message to question the authority of the church and not to blindly follow the church... and if that's enough to constitute an "attack" on the chuch and to shake one's faith... well, heck - I think maybe they hve more to worry about than a children's book
